They were looking for an adventure—a night of harmless fun. Miguel has a map. Kristin’s friend has the equipment. The mine leads to the cave, and the cave is where they’ll find their fortune.
But down in the darkness, something waits.
It needs them.
The caves hold a secret. They’re Inhabited.

Inhabited edition by Ike Hamill Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

First things first...the book isn't what you think.

Yes, people go into a cave. Yes, there's something there. And yes, death happens. But, trust me on this, it's different.

At times, the book had me completely perplexed. Just what was going on here? Eventually, it makes sense and it's very unique. The book also manages to be pretty darned scary. Either Hamill knows a lot about caving and mines, or he fakes it well. You can feel the encroaching darkness as you read. The setting is that good.

I did have a little problem with the voice and authenticity of some of the characters. They didn't always speak the way I expected them to. I kept thinking that this was the way the author probably speaks, but it didn't feel right for the characters.

However, that was pretty minor when compared with a plot that had some very surprising elements and real chills.

I'm looking forward to reading the author again. I didn't think this one would surprise me, but it did.

Inhabited edition by Ike Hamill Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

And agonizingly long. The creep-fest was so never ending...which is my way of saying, the author did a brilliant job of making you feel like you were one of the characters. Their "never ending" jaunt through the mine/cave is told by several characters, but the story's the same..."Get me OUTTA here!"
I like dark and somewhat desperate stories. Ike Hamill sure delivers in this department. I also liked the two intertwined story threads.
Alas, I think that the story drags on a little too much, especially around the third quarter.
Also, the writing could do with some good editing. Especially around the last quarter misspellings and errors keep piling up. In one place, one of the character's names is even wrong for a couple of (virtual) pages, which is kinda unsettling (Kate? Who the hell is Kate?)
Not a bad read by any means, but Ike Hamill should consider a good Editor to polish his work. No doubt there's a diamond under the somewhat rough surface.
The writing is smooth and draws you in, and then teases you, over and over, guessing about what might be found on the next page, in the next cavern, or just around the next corner. My curiosity grew with every page. I liked the way it ended too. Different, because it was not exactly what I expected, but very enjoyable too.
I loved this book. It caught me right from the start and I couldn't stop till I finished it. Can't wait for the movie which I think this story would be great for. Watch out, Steven King, you have strong competition here with Ike. Too bad all books can't be this captivating and well written.
There is a reason Ike Hamill is becoming a household name in horror stories. This man writes with such amazing skill. One thing I love about his stories is that anyone can put themselves in the story. This book was a fast hook. I couldn't put it down. The twists and turns had me coming at the bit for the next piece of action. And this one has lots of action and suspense. It kept me awake the night I finished it. I cannot tell you the last time that was accomplished by any arthor! READ IT!
INHABITED was just shy of being in the top three of Mr. Hamill's works. (Lies of the Prophet, Migrators, Vivisectionist). I'm horrible at reviewing individual books. I'm much better at reviewing writers collections! (See below) Bottom line you can't go wrong with Ike Hamill. EVER.

I stumbled upon Mr. Hamill's work about 2 yrs ago and thoroughly enjoy it. What I enjoy the most is the "in between" writing or establishment narrative. What could be (and often is) clunky, disjointed, overworked descriptors that only work for the author who holds the landscape in his imagination, is laid out for the reader clear and uncluttered. This is so important because the landscape is its own character in most of Mr. Hamill's books.
I wanna rate this one higher, because it had some intriguing ideas and kept me reading until the end. However, ultimately, it felt like that Prometheus movie - lots of interesting questions that ultimately lead to nothing. The huge pile of phenomena don't add up to a coherent picture - I get that the author wanted to preserve the mystery and let the reader fill in most of the blanks, but the trouble is, for that to work, you have to give consistent clues, and you have to give ENOUGH clues that the reader THINKS they know what is going on. This feels like two or even three separate stories collided.
