POISONED EARTH A Military Zombie Thriller Series ZRisen Book 3 eBook Timothy W Long
I've made it no big secret that I'm a fan of Tim Long's writing style. I've read all his books and enjoyed them immensely. Z-Risen 3 is no exception to that rule.My one complaint would be that Tim's trademark humor isn't as prevalent in this installment in the series. Instead, he presents readers with more substance. Don't get me wrong, that witty repartee between the two male leads is still there, and there were quite a few barbed jabs hurled at each other, giving this reader the much-needed moments of chuckle she needed.
Poisoned Earth is what I like to call "filler". There's no definitive moment of conflict, but I know this is because Long had to split this one into two installments. Read: guaranteed fourth book on the horizon! I'm thankful, though, that Long didn't just give readers a book of nothing. Every page is filled to the brim with conflict and strife as the group struggles to just merely survive. And in sound so, readers are able to connect more with the characters.
In my opinion, Poisoned Earth is a must read in the epic saga of Machinist Mate First Class Jackson Creed and Marine Sergeant Joel “Cruze” Kelly. Instead of the in your face one-two punch of Long's usual style, it delivers a not-so-subtle lead up to what promises to be an explosive fourth book.
Make smart choices...pick up the book and find out for yourself why Tim is one of my favorite zompoc writers.

POISONED EARTH A Military Zombie Thriller Series ZRisen Book 3 eBook Timothy W Long Reviews
I had pre-ordered this book immediately after reading the first-two books of the series. I probably would have rated the book higher, but the wait between book two and this book was so long that I had forgotten all about every character except for the two main characters.
As a former Navy man myself with lots of time around both sailors and marines, I think the author does a great job with those two characters; they're like most sailors and marines that I knew.
As for the remaining characters, there is some skill involved in writing a series. I will be the first to admit that I don't have it. The best authors can insert reminders to re-introduce you to characters without being too heavy-handed. Mr. Long, it seemed, didn't insert any reminders at all, and I struggled all through the book to remember how the two main characters met their "band" of supporting characters in the previous books of the series. I will accept part of the blame for this, because I read so many zombie apocalypse series that it is difficult to not get characters confused between series.
Despite this, I'm too invested now to just give up on the series. There will be at least one more book, or so it appears from the ending of Poisoned Earth.
The author isn't a bad writer however I feel he should get his story a little straighter. On one hand he tells us that whole bases of armed troops cannot handle the zombie hordes because so many people turned into zombies almost overnight. According to the author no one is safe going out because most of the population has turned into zombies.
Then he tells us that his main characters aren't safe in their second story hideout because of the gangs roaming around searching for food and supplies. In fact his characters leave on a short scouting mission only to find that their hideout has been raided and cleaned out and that a second, completely separate group, has taken over their hideout.
He tells us that all the supplies, food, water ammunition have been cleaned out of every gas station, every grocery store and every restaurant everywhere. BY WHO? 90% population is a ZOMBIE! If armed US military units cannot move around without being killed who can? And how can anyone have scavenged longer than a few hours or a day after the disaster hit?
His characters are military and have at least been through basic training and are armed. How could they be the only ones that can't move around and how did they miss the scavenging bus that everyone else seems to have boarded?
His group of characters are like caricatures from a bad horror movie. You know the ones. People who shouldn't get out of each other’s sight for safety reasons but some go to the attic and some to the basement so they can be slaughtered. Ridiculous.
I won't even go into the female they run into who could kick Rambo's ass while blowing the crap out of a Zen master.
He is a reasonably good writer but he needs to put more thought into his characters and his plot line.
Lastly in my opinion his books are way too short to be priced a $2.99. The claim is that the book is 254 pages long. It may be but only about 95% is story. The credits and a teaser to get us to buy another book take up at least 5%.
If this was a William R. Forstchen or some other established and popular author the price would be a bargain but the author is practically unknown.
William R. Forstchen’s is a Professor of History and Faculty Fellow he received his doctorate from Purdue University, studying under the historian Professor Gunther E. Rothenberg. He has written close to 50 books written for TV and magazines along with publishing a multitude of papers.
He is in high demand as a public speaker and his book, One Second After alone reached the number 11 position on the New York Times Best Seller list in fiction on May 3, 2009.
One Second After is only $2.80 per 100 pages and he is a well-known, well-respected author.
My personal view for an unknown indie author is $1 per 100 plus pages. This book should have been priced more like $2 or perhaps $2.50.
I agree the author is entitled to charge what he feels his time is worth but the world of indie author’s is bursting at the seams. A better price might give him the experience and time to perfect his abilities while still selling books.
